This is how you make sure you know what to do

Good preparation is half the job

When you come to work in the Netherlands, there are several things that need to be arranged. Not only upon arrival, but also during your stay. At NWH Jobs we support and help you as much as possible. We have listed things for you that are useful to know in advance.

Employment contract

An employment contract is always signed for a specific period of time. The ABU collective labour agreement for temporary workers applies here. From the moment of employment at NWH Jobs, the salary depends on the salary tables of the client (in accordance with the ABU collective labour agreement).

Salary

Salary in the Netherlands is always gross and based on age. This statutory minimum wage is revalued twice a year. This is always done at the beginning of the year and halfway through the year, on January 1 and July 1. The amount of the remuneration depends on the intended workplace, in accordance with the applicable collective labour agreement to which the client belongs. The rates may therefore vary depending on the company/industry in which you will be working. Settlement of the hours worked takes place on a weekly basis.

If you are going to work in the Netherlands for the first time the first settlement is usually paid in the third working week (usually on Friday) – after you have received a BSN number (personal identification number). If you already have this identification number, you will be paid in the next week of employment. The pay slip contains information on the number of hours for which the salary is being paid and on the basis of which hourly rate. Information on the net income and the calculation method is also available.

Holidays and holiday allowance

The settlement also contains information about the number of statutory days' holiday you have collected, expressed in hours. Holiday hours are paid when you go on holiday or within six weeks after the end of your employment contract. You will receive the holiday allowance once a year in May or within six weeks after the end of your employment contract.

Bank account

Before you move to the Netherlands, you need a bank account. Failure to provide the bank account number means that the wages cannot be paid out. The salary is paid in euros. So make sure that the bank where your account is located accepts foreign currency transfers. Do not forget to inform the employer immediately if the bank account changes during the collaboration. Information with new data for the payment of wages must be sent via the Plan4Flex app.

Personal Identification Number

Your Personal Identification Number (BSN Number), also known as the former Sofinummer, is an identification number that every person working in the Netherlands must have. The personal identification number is issued by Dutch municipalities upon presentation of a valid passport or European ID card.

It is not possible to pay the salary without a BSN number, so the employer tries to register a new employee in the RNI (registration of persons without permanent residence in the Netherlands) in the first week of residence. Issuing a personal identification number is free of charge.

Health insurance

Every employee who is employed by NWH Jobs is compulsorily insured against medical expenses. The employer's permission is included in the employment contract to represent the employee in contacts with the insurer. The costs of the insurance are automatically deducted from the weekly salary. Every employee may also take out insurance him or herself, in which case it is necessary to send an insurance policy to the employer.
